CORPUS CHRISTI -- "Neither snow, nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds," or so goes the old postal service adage about how hard postal employees work.
But one local man says instead of hard work, he saw a postal worker sleeping in an empty field. In a picture taken by Sam Bowersox, he says a postal worker was taking a snooze in a field in the middle of the day.
"It's obvious that he's sound asleep," Bowersox said.
So Bowersox took some pictures as proof, hoping the postal service could do something.
"Anybody could come up, steal the mail, you know if someone is waiting on a check, we're all waiting on mail, someone could've taken it, he didn't even wake up when I was there, so someone could've just pulled something out of there, and that was my concern," Bowersox said.
But Bowersox says when he called the post office, no one was interested in talking to him. Someone finally took his information and promised to call him back, but he says no one ever did.
We contacted the postal service, they sent us this statement in response, "We appreciate your bringing this to our attention and will follow up with an internal investigation. ... It is the policy of the U.S. Postal Service not to publicly discuss internal administrative actions taken against employees, the exception being when criminal charges are filed and the information becomes a matter of public record. We will have no additional public comment on this matter."
In the meantime, Bowersox says he'll keep an eye out for napping postmen.
