Officer Injured When Cruiser Rear Ended

CORPUS CHRISTI - The JFK Causeway had to be shutdown early Wednesday morning for a car accident involving a police officer.

Officers said this happened just before 3 a.m.

The 20-year-old driver of a pickup truck rear ended the police cruiser while the officer was in the unit.

The impact caused the truck to roll onto its side, trapping the driver in the cab. He had to be rescued by fire crews.

Both men were transported to the hospital, but the driver had more serious injuries. They are expected to be okay.

Police believe alcohol is a factor in the crash.
