Man Killed While Crossing Weber Road, Suspect Drives Away

CORPUS CHRISTI - A 61-year-old man died from being hit while crossing Weber Road on Sunday.

The medical examiner has identified Ernest Stephens as the man killed. Corpus Christi PD says he was crossing the street, but was not in a crosswalk or at an intersection, when he was hit by a silver Lincoln Navigator.

According to investigators, the driver of the Navigator pulled into a nearby parking lot and went to check on Stephens. However, the driver and roughly 5 passengers left the area once they heard police officers and an ambulance headed their way.

Stephens died less than an hour after he was taken to the hospital.
