CORPUS CHRISTI - A local man has died from an allergic reaction to fire ant bites.
It's the second fatality in less than two months.
As you may remember, middle school student Cameron Epinosa died back in September, several days after he was bitten by ants during a football game.
The recent fatality was Ryan Wystub, a 40 year old man, a father of three.
His friends say Wystub was loading wood onto his truck back on October 24th, when he was bitten by ants.
He went inside to clean them off and passed out on his bed minutes later.
His wife called 911.
What's unclear at this point is how effectively Wystub used the EpiPen he carries, whether or not he was able to fully inject himself with the medicine.
His pastor, Rod Carver, says Wystub's death took everyone by surprise.
"Shocking. He was just here the night before and you know, just a huge part of the church, and all of the sudden, he's not there. People were just absolutely blown away," Carver says.
Wystub was a chief in the United States Navy.
