CORPUS CHRISTI - Police arrest the man they believe fatally beat a 25-year old last weekend at a southside Whataburger. 31-year old David Alvarez was arrested at his home last night and now sits in jail charged with murder.
Thursday night police arrested 31-year old David Alvarez at his home just blocks away from where police say he murdered a man trying to apologize for dinging his brother's car.
One of Alvarez's neighbors came home last night to find her block of Brockhampton Street filled with police officers. She say she saw two men being escorted out the home on the 6100 block in cuffs and taken in to police custody.
Court documents state, Alvarez's father told police Thursday both of his sons were at Whataburger the night of Juarez's murder. Juarez reportedly dinged the car next to him when he opened his door. A witness says he then opened the passenger side door of that car in an attempt to apologize.
"David struck Mr. Juarez in the face one time with his right fist causing him to fall," says Alvarez's father.
Juarez later died from his injuries. The suspect's father told officers he advised his son to seek medical treatment for an injured right hand that night. Video of Alvarez being lead into the City Detention Center clearly shows his right hand and wrist in a bandage.
Juarez's little sister told us by phone today she and her family were overcome with relief last night after learning about the arrest in Aaron's case.
"Work on try to get some closure since he was caught. It's going to be a long hard road but this is definitely step one for us," says Lea Juarez.
Juarez says the family still has a big hole in their heart and life but are grateful for all the police and community have done for their family.
David Alvarez remains in jail charged with the murder of Aaron Juarez on a $200,000 bond.
