CORPUS CHRISTI - The smart thinking of a Corpus Christi couple saved them $100. Police say a Robstown man was at the H.E.B. on Leopard and Violet today passing around fake money.
Officers say he approached one couple and asked for change for a $100 bill; they gave him the change but when they looked at the bill the couple knew right away it was fake and asked the man for their money back.
Elyssa Salazar says he returned their money and took off in his car. The couple called 911 and police tracked the man down at a near-by gas station.
"Even for somebody like me," the witness said, "I'm just a regular housewife I work and that's not right 100 dollars doesn't come easy now a days."
Officers say they found three fake $100 bills on the man. He faces forgery charges.
