CORPUS CHRISTI - One man reeled in the catch of a lifetime, just 5 miles off the coast of Port Aransas today.
After a 7-hour fight, the fisherman reeled in a 12 foot, 7 inch tiger shark, about the size of his boat.
"He was definitely a fighter," said Ryan Spring, who drives down from San Antonio about twice a year to fish out in Port Aransas.
The shark actually pulled their boat south for over 15 miles. Spring said he considered cutting the line several times during the night.
"It was like seven hours of pure pain and suffering," he said. "But, it was all well worth it though."
Weighing in at more than 800 pounds, locals say this one of the biggest shark they've seen. It took almost a dozen men just to hoist the shark onto the dock.
"It was incredible to see him, unhook it, pull it onto the dock and hang it on the gaff," said vacationer Spencer Burbank.
Spring said if it was a female shark, he would've released it, but a fish this size is fair game and worth the fight.
"If something bites the hook," he said. "I'm not going to give up."
Spring said he's already working with someone to donate the meat from the fish to charity.
