ARANSAS PASS - San Patricio County Sheriff Leroy Moody says fire evacuees in Aransas Pass may soon return to their homes. Right now, fire crews are still out in the area taking care of hot spots from the blaze that forced evacuations of residents on the northside of town.

Authorities issued a mandatory evacuation order for residents on 7th thru 13th Streets as the fire headed towards the Highway 35 bypass. Fire departments from across the Coastal Bend were called to battle the very large brush fire that started mid-afternoon.

There's no word on what started the fire or confirmation on what burned.
