WASHINGTON -- Today marks the 10th anniversary of the rescue of American prisoner of war Jessica Lynch, taken hostage in Iraq.
Ten years ago, in 2003, Jessica Lynch became a household name when her rescue became the first successful rescue of an American POW since the Vietnam War and the first rescue of a female prisoner of war.
U.S. Special Forces rescued the 19-year-old Lynch from an Iraqi hospital when her capture by Iraqi forces left her injured.
Her rescue, caught on tape, gripped America. Although later reports indicated some of the details may have been exaggerated.
