LSC Outdoor Track & Field Championship Underway at TAMUK

KINGSVILLE, Texas - Thursday opened the competition of the 2014 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville.

The weekend's competition started with the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon multi event. After four events, Angelo State's Jordan Gray is in first place for the women's heptathlon with 3,181 points. Seth Pearson of Angelo State is in first place of the men's decathlon with 3,671 points after four events.

The weekend looks to be huge for the Javelinas as several runners are on track to break records. For the men's side, Michal Idziak is on pace to set a record time in the men's 800m run after his performance at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet.

On the women's team, Claudia Fernandez (1500m run), and Valerie Rodriguez (800m run) are on their way up the list of records set by Javelina women in their events.

There will also be Javelinas defending conference titles. Amber Perry will be defending her title in the women's 400m dash this weekend. Jeron Robinson is competing to repeat his win from last season in the men's high jump

Teams competing at the LSC Championship include Texas A&M-Kingsville, Angelo State, McMurry, Tarleton State, Harding, Eastern New Mexico, Texas A&M-Commerce and Midwestern State (women only).

In the championship meet, regardless of the number of teams, official team scores shall be kept and recorded for the top eight competitors in each event. The points will be awarded as follows: Individual Events (1st -8th place): 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 and Relay Events (1st - 8th place): 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. Medals will be awarded to the top-three individual finishers in each event along with the top-three teams in relay events.

Competition is set to resume at 10:30 a.m. with the decathlon first on Friday.
