CORPUS CHRISTI - Today is March 2nd which means it's Texas Independence Day. For the 27th year in a row, Nueces County held a "Toast to Texas" Independence Day Celebration.
People got together at the Centennial House on North Upper Broadway to toast with texas spring water and pledge allegiance to the Texas and American flags. In 1836, the Republic of Texas formally declared its independence from Mexico and people at the event say it's important to remember our history.
"We need to remember that we were a Republic," said Nueces County Historical Commission Vice President, "that it was a free nation at one time and it's just a great thing to celebrate."
