CORPUS CHRISTI -- We spoke with an Argentinean woman this evening who now lives here in Corpus Christi.
She told us she was excited to hear that the pope hails from her birth country.
Saralee Witt screamed with delight after she found out about Pope Francis being from Argentina.
She says there are many Argentineans who live in Corpus Christi.
They meet and talk about their country often.
She says the positive news of the pope is welcoming.
Saralee said, "We keep in touch with each other and all the news. And, all the news we had been getting up until now was bad from Argentina, economy, politically, everything. So, this will be a big boost."
Saralee says the same party has been in control of Argentina for years...and nothing seems to change for the better.
She believes the new pope may not only bring changes to Vatican City but to her mother country as well.
She said, "Maybe this will give people the opportunity, for once, to go out and vote for something else."
Saralee plans to do some research on the new pope to find out more about him.
But, she says if he's anything like most Argentineans, he'll be a very friendly and accessible man.
