CORPUS CHRISTI -- Local veterans lined up at the Nueces County Courthouse this morning in hopes to get some financial assistance from the county to help pay their bills.
Veterans Services employees said veterans were waiting in line this morning to apply for help from the $125 thousand dollar grant that was issued to Nueces County yesterday.
Some veterans had to be turned away though because they didn't meet the county's requirements.
In order to receive financial assistance, you must be a veteran that lives inside Nueces County limits.
A handful of veterans were turned away because they didn't have proper forms of identification, also.
Additionally, veterans won't qualify if they were dishonorably discharged from the armed services.
Still, vets who showed up to apply today said they were hopeful for any help they could get.
"I thought it was a great idea for people that need it, as like myself, who have bills," said Vietnam Veteran Ralph Love, who supports a family of four while working part-time. "My retirement goes to my wife and my family, so there's no money left over."
Veteran Ronald Mathis showed up at the courthouse in hopes to get financial assistance to pay his lengthy medical bills.
"I was glad to hear (about the grant) because ever since I got out of Vietnam...I ain't been able to get no answers, no help, no nothing," Mathis said. "I've been a sick person for a long time."
Veterans Services workers said there's still money available for veterans.
They invite eligible veterans to the courthouse to apply.
