DRISCOLL - A local man and woman died in a head on collision in Nueces County. It happened just before 9 o'clock Saturday night on FM 665 about a quarter mile from Driscoll.

Troopers say Gina Reynolds was driving Westbound on 665, when she veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into John Beauregard's Tahoe.

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, but died at the scene of the accident. Investigators say they're still looking into what caused Reynolds to swerve into the other lane.

Reporter Mitch Bryan talked to John's friends who say he dedicated his life to the local Boy Scouts of America.

Marty Sepulveda and Martin Chiuminatto worked alongside 48 year old John Beauregard for nearly 5 years and they say that John had dedicated most of his life to the Scouts.

"I used to delight in introducing John as a walking, talking encyclopedia of Scouting. He was just a wonderful resource for Scouting and we are going to miss him," said Chiuminatto .

John was on his way home from an Order of the Arrow event at Camp Huisache when another driver veered into his lane and the two struck each other head on.

"That's what's so tragic, that he was almost home. It sounds like a cliché. He was almost home," Chiuminatto added.

What's worse is that only 5 weeks ago, John had been the recipient of a much needed kidney transplant and was on the mend when tragedy struck.

"He was just out of recovery and getting back to work," Sepulveda said.

An Eagle Scout, himself, Beauregard leaves behind a legacy among the scouting world that won't soon be forgotten.

"He always found the best, and brought it out of everybody."

The Boy Scout slogan reads, "Do a good turn daily," and his friends say it was one rule that John Beauregard practiced until his final day.

John leaves behind a wife and two children. His funeral arrangements haven't been set yet.
