CORPUS CHRISTI - A Nueces County probation officer was arrested Friday evening for DWI following a near head-on collision on I-37.
Police were forced to shut down the interstate near the Labonte Park exit for about an hour while the wreck involving two pickups was cleaned up.
Officers at the scene said it appears the suspect's pickup was headed south on the northbound side, and collided with another pickup that was unable to avoid the collision.
Both drivers suffered only minor injuries.
After he was checked out at the hospital, police say 56 year old John Beattie was taken to jail for DWI.
Initial reports from the scene hinted that the allegedly intoxicated driver was a probation officer, and online records identify Beattie as a longtime probation officer for Nueces County.
His employment status was unclear as of late Friday.
All lanes of I-37 were reopened to traffic around 7:45pm.
