CORPUS CHRISTI - Baseball talent runs deep here in South Texas and two more local all-stars have signed on to play college baseball.
This past season, the King Mustangs went three rounds deep into the playoffs with the help of pitcher E.J. Alejandre. The senior went 6-3 with 85 strikeouts.
He's signed on to play for the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio.
Alejandre tells us he's proud to be joining a Southland Conference team "Its going to be tougher and I am going to take my work ethic with me and persevere because I know the classes will be tougher."
Meanwhile, the Bishop Badger's Joseph Rubio has signed on with San Jacinto Junior College. Rubio went 12-1 with 125 strikeouts for the Badgers. He earned district MVP honors and made all-state as a third baseman.
for that effort.
He tells us San Jacinto has signed him as a pitcher first and a third baseman as a backup option.
"The coach said he liked my pitching and said he does not need to change anything about me, except for my velocity," says Rubio.
