Local Man Killed in Fiery Crash

CORPUS CHRISTI - State troopers say one man died and another was injured in fiery crash on State Highway 16, north of Freer, on Tuesday night.

DPS officials say the driver, 33-year-old Rene Villarreal of Corpus Christi, and his passenger, 33-year-old Darnell William of Sinton, were traveling southbound when Villarreal lost control of the pickup while taking a curve.

The truck left the roadway, rolled over, landed on the hood in some brush and caught fire. Villarreal died in the crash. William was transported to Christus Spohn Alice with minor injuries.

Investigators believe speed played a factor in the crash.
