CORPUS CHRISTI -- A local comedian is bringing a little bit of Hollywood to the American Bank Center.
Portland native Steve Trevino announced today a special event set for September 21st with singer/songwriter Roger Creager and tickets go on sale Saturday.
This is the second time the comedian is teaming up with Creager, but the first for the duo in South Texas.
They first worked together on one of the highest rated comedy specials for Showtime, "Steve Trevino: Grandpa Joe's Son." The one hour special featured music by Creager.
Now, they're bringing a new show home to the American Bank Center.
"I think we can show America how beautiful our city is and our community and really put on a special that they've never seen before," Trevino said.
He admitted he is nervous and excited - hoping the community will come through with a large crowd.
He says the pairing of two South Texas natives is a special parallel and show casing that nationally is exciting.
"Not only is he a country music singer and a star but he also sings Rancho Grande and that's kind of like me, you know, my standup is in English, but I'm very proud to be Mexican American and more importantly American, and on top of that, Texan,"
Now that their special is set for the stage at the American Bank Center, Trevino has other big plans in the works. He's developing a sitcom based on his act and life here in South Texas
"Any time there's a virgin mary in a tortilla, I know that's South Texas," Trevino joked.
It's something he hopes will give the rest of the country a comical taste of the Coastal Bend.
"We're going to film a pilot this year, and we just hope that it ends up on TV," said Trevino.
Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. for the special show. It's set for Saturday, September 21st at 8 p.m.
