Local Businessman Blocks Port Deal

CORPUS CHRISTI - A plan to build a half billion dollar natural gas project in the Corpus Christi Ship Channel is being challenged in court.

Former Port Commissioner Ken Berry filed a lawsuit last month to block the project. A hearing on whether to extend a restraining order holding back the project, is slated for Monday in Nueces County Court-at-Law No. 3.

The lawsuit claims potential bidders were shut out of the bidding process that was tilted to favor Martin Midstream, which is leasing the 260-acre site from the Port of Corpus Christi.

Berry did not return a call seeking comment on why he might want to buy the property near Port Aransas.
