Local Business Caught Fire Overnight

CORPUS CHRISTI - Investigators are trying to figure out how a stubborn fire started at a local business.

This happened around 11 last night in the 5800 block of Ayers.

The fire broke out and was mostly contained to a cabinet business in that building.

Crews were able to put out the flames quickly, but not before a significant amount of smoke and heat damage.

Fire officials say they're still investigating the cause, but it does not look suspicious.

Battalion Chief Frank Rodriguez said,"I know that the owners have a security system and they're going to be looking at that to make sure that no one came in and, you know, might have set it. But it doesn't appear that way right now."

The fire flared up again a few hours later, but crews kept it under control.

Some nearby businesses also had smoke damage.
