ROCKPORT - It took three different volunteer fire departments an hour to put out two oil tanks that caught fire late Thursday afternoon.
Rockport VFD, Lamar VFD, and Aransas VFD were on scene helping to contain and put out the fire on FM 1781 near Copano Bay.
The National Weather Service confirms a lightning was in the area, and it is believed a strike around 4 p.m. caused of the fire.
Rockport VFD Chief Danny Cox believes an 18-wheeler was attached to the tank during the lightning strike, but drove off.
The Chief says this is the second lightning strike to this location in the past year. Lightening struck different tank in July of 2012. Firefighters say they used what they learned from last year's fire to help better control the fire.
