CORPUS CHRISTI - Spohn Shoreline donated thousands of dollars to the Corpus Christii Fire Department EMS so they can purchase new deribrillators. A local man who attended the ceremony said a defibrillator saved his life.

"I don't remember getting to my house," said William Gregorcyk, "I do not remember calling 911."

The 64-year-old said everything is still a little hazy from that day he almost lost his life.

"Well I woke up in Houston, apparently, sometime during that day," he said, "I do not remember the day."

He had a heart attack and a stroke. When medics got to him, his body was lifeless and they had to use a defibrillator twice to bring him back to life.

"I think the proximity of this piece of equipment to my situation that night was absolutely, I've been told by all the doctors, totally important to what happened or didn't happen," Gregorcyk said.

Today, Spohn Shoreline donated $140,000 to Corpus Christi Fire Department EMS who will buy five new defibrillators. The new machines are lighter, a lot more portable and a lot more advanced than the ones they currently use.

While medics in the field are working with the defibrillator, the defibrillator transmits information back here to Christus Spohn Emergency Department where the medical team is able to get ready for the patient's arrival which saves a lot of time for someone who might not have time to spare.

"Time is everything," Gregorcyk said, "that's my point. When they show up and when they show up on time everything works for you."

Things could have been different for Gregorcyk that day but he's forever grateful his ambulance had one a defibrillator.
