Leading State Dem. Disappointed with President

CORPUS CHRISTI - A leading Texas democrat is disappointed no representatives from the Valley got to share their views on the border crisis with President Obama earlier this week.

Today, State Senator Juan "Chuey" Hinojosa told KRIS 6 News it might have made more sense for the President to visit the valley, instead of Dallas, since Obama's visit centered around Texas border issues.

The Senator commended private charities and churches for stepping up and taking care of the growing number of children crossing the border.

But Hinojosa says that won't fix the problem.

For that, we have to turn to the Federal Government.

"We cannot have an open border without us properly regulating and having proper oversight of who comes in to our country," he says.

Hinojosa also commended State troopers for helping the Border Patrol cover gaps on the border.
