Laura Day Pleads Not Guilty to Capital Murder Charge

CORPUS CHRISTI -- The stepmother facing a capital murder charge for the drowning death of her 6-year old stepson pled not guilty on all charges Tuesday morning.
Laura Day is charged with three separate counts in connection to the death of her stepson, Taylor Syring, 6, who drown near Bob Hall Pier back in October.
Judge Bobby Galvan read Day her charges in court.
"Count one is capital murder, the punishment range for capital murder is life in imprisonment. Count two is a first degree injury of a child. Count three is a second degree felony however if the state can prove everything in the charging instrument it would make it a first degree felony," Judge Galvan said.
Police say, Taylor was lying face down in the water, that was after Day reportedly took off Taylor's life jacket but continued to let him play in the water.
Day's husband and Taylor's father, David Syring was in the courtroom as Day entered the plea. He maintains that Taylor's death wasn't intentional.
"It was a tragic accident," David said.
According to the affidavit, Day, rather than performing CPR on Taylor or calling 911, she said she placed the boy's lifeless body in her car and drove to Bay Area Hospital. During the drive, she passed up two fire stations where paramedics could have attempted to save the boy's life.
Her trial is scheduled to begin on March 25th.
