CORPUS CHRISTI - Today the Nueces County Commissioners approved the sale of land to developers who want to build the outlet mall in Robstown.
The Commissioners Court approved the sale of about 50 acers of land to Dolphin Ventures. The county hopes to have an official contract signed before Thanksgiving. Once a contract is signed the developers will pay about 2 million dollars for the land and start the building process.
"I think it's a great day for Nueces County and Robstown," said County Judge Loyd Neal.
Local business owners in Robstown agree.
"Oh I think it will be a wonderful thing. I'm just hoping it actually comes to be," said the owner of MG's Pizza Melody Garver.
This project was proposed back in 2007. So while most residents are a little hesitant in believing this outlet mall will actually come to be, they remain positive.
"Hopefully there will be a lot of local people working at the mall. And if somebody says," well geeze I wanna good pizza, or a sub, you know a good taco or hamburger." They can direct them to a good local place here in town which will be great for all of us," said Garver.
The county says developers hope to begin construction toward the end of 2013. The plan is to have the mall ready to open by the end of 2014.
