Kleberg County Inmate Damages Courthouse During Sentencing

KINGSVILLE - An inmate at the Kleberg County courthouse caused quite a scene yesterday, fighting with officers and causing over $1,000 in damage.
Ruben Longoria was in court for a probation hearing. He was already in jail for aggravated assault.
Judge Angelica Hernandez revoked his probation and increased his sentence from seven years to 20 after the court says he assaulted a Kleberg County jail guard last month.
As Longoria was being escorted out of the courtroom, he started to yell, kick, and swing his arms. He fought with officers and shattered the glass on the courtroom doors.
Kleberg County District Attorney John Hubert says bystanders stepped up to secure the court.
"Law enforcement officers that weren't involved in courthouse security, but were here for other reasons, immediately stepped in to help with courthouse security," Hubert says.
Longoria has a violent past. The very reason his probation was being revoked in the first place.
6 News has obtained video that shows a planned jail assault. In the video, Longoria is part of a group of inmates that attack another inmate. They assault several jail guards in the process.
That assault landed Longoria back in court, and got him is 20 year sentence.
While there's no word on whether courthouse security will be increased, Hubert says the situation was handled quickly.
"The detention officers were there and as soon as he kind of wrestled free, I mean it just like that quick, they were on him," Hubert says.
No word on whether Longoria will face further charges.
