CORPUS CHRISTI-- A kite surfer is lucky to be alive after strong winds pulled him out to sea earlier today.
Police were called out to North Beach around 10AM where a kite surfer was stranded in the water and struggling against the current.
He managed to get within 200 yards of the shore before a police swimmer was able to get him back to shore.
Luckily he was OK, police say he encountered a gap in wind and lost his kite.
The surfer, Jon Hantke, is from Germany and came out here to kite surf, while he may have been a little embarrassed, he had a little advice for other kite surfers.
"If you're kite surfing in area of where there aren't so many kite surfers or no constant surveillance by beach guards, then only do it when the wind comes onshore, and not offshore. that be my advice and that's what i should take care of next time"
The Coast Guard picked up his leftover kite and returned it to him.
