Kingsville School Board Member Convicted for Sexually Assaulting Child

KINGSVILLE - A Kleberg County jury has found Kingsville ISD school board member Rudy Macareno guilty of indecency with a child and aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Members of the school board asked Macareno to resign last year as he was under indictment, but he refused. Under state law, the board was unable to force Macareno to resign his post.

That will likely change now that he's been convicted on felony charges. It will be up to a court to decide whether Macareno will be removed from his elected position. If that happens, the school board will then move to choose a method for filling the vacant seat.

The punishment phase of the trial is already underway in the 105th District Court in Kingsville.
