KINGSVILLE - The City of Kingsville is in the middle of a beautification process that involves removing abandoned vehicles from city streets.
According to an e-mail from the Kingsville Police Chief his officers have been order to make sure that happens.
The e-mail dated October 29th, was sent out by Police Chief Ricardo Torres.
It says :"The directive from my office is for each officer to either cite or report at least one vehicle from the day shift.
You as supervisors will ensure that this takes place.
If you are unable to follow the directive then other action will have to be taken."
Chief Torres and Kingsville Mayor Sam Fugate were unavailable to comment on the story.
City Manager Carlos Yerena says the city commission has made beautifying the city a priority and getting abandoned vehicles off the street is part of that priority.
But making threats wasn't part of the mandate.
Kingsville City Manager Carlos Verena said "It may have been the police chief that chose to take that route. But that has not been mandated by the city commission. The mandate that we have is to beautify the community."
In the meantime, once an officer has tagged an abandoned car the owner has 10 days to move it.
If he or she does not meet that deadline, the next step is a visit to municipal court.
