CORPUS CHRISTI - Athletes from across the Coastal Bend gathered this morning in Flour Bluff for the 30th Annual Special Olympics Games here in South Texas. Before the games began the Special Olympics torch made its way around the track. With help from Corpus Christi's Police Chief Floyd Simpson and a Special Olympics competitor the official flame was lit. Once the games began, the crowd cheered on a variety of races from dashes to relays.
"The looks on their faces," said Games Director Arnold Sosa, "the smiles on their faces, the pride it instills their family it's just immeasurable. It's just wonderful."
Winners from these games are eligible to move on to compete in the state games hosted later this year at the University of Texas at Arlington.
