LAKE CORPUS CHRISTI -- Kids took over this morning at Lake Corpus Christi State Park for the 21st annual Kid Fish Derby.
Kids from five to twelve years old got the chance to fish for rainbow trout...and lots of it.
Texas Park and Wildlife officials stocked the lake with 1500 fish.
Each kid also got to take home a fishing rod.
The event was free and people who helped out say they do this every year to encourage kids to do things outside, and this year, it's especially important.
Robbie Merritt with Texas Park and Wildlife said, "There's a lot of negativity going on right now about the lake level being low but there's still a lot of fun to be had out here so this is a great way to get people out and show there is a lake here and there's still plenty of fish to be had."
