ALICE - A car thief in Alice got more than he expected Monday morning, after he drove off with a 3-year old girl who was asleep in the back seat.

"I heard screaming like a nightmare, it was a nightmare," says half sister Krystina Davila.

A nightmare that began Monday morning just before 6 when Davila's mother dropped off her son at her daughter's house, something she does every morning before work.

"When she was walking back a man jumped in the vehicle with my sister asleep in the back seat," says Davila.

The thief drove off, while 3 year-old Alina Salinas went unnoticed in the back seat. Police are calling it crime of opportunity, rather than a planned kidnapping

"All our officers started searching for the vehicle in the area and we put out there on the streets to start searching," says Alice Police Lieutenant Tony Aguilar.

45 minutes later and just a half a mile away from where Alina was taken, police located her at the Bordeaux Apartments, safe in her car seat.

"I am very thankful and I believe that prayers can be answered and they were. We prayed and prayed and we prayed and we prayed and with in the hour she was here," says Davila.

Davila says it's the power of prayer that brought her sister home safely Monday morning.

"He could have left her in the back road, he could have left her any where but he left her in a place where she could be found and she was unharmed," says Davila.

The family is still shaken after the events that unfolded Monday morning, but warn any parent to be alert at all times to prevent something like this from happening to them.

Alice Police say they are working on some leads but they haven't identified a suspect. If they catch who ever did it,they could face felony charges for kidnapping and auto theft.
