Kid Rides Unicycle 15 Miles For A Good Cause

CORPUS CHRISTI - They say "actions speak louder than words" which is definitely the case for 14-year-old David Martin.
The quiet eighth grader from St. Joseph's Episcopal School embarked on a 15-mile bike ride today; he did it to help a charity near and dear to his heart, Mission 911.
"There's not too many kids out there that want to go and just work for charity," Martin said.
His family watched from a truck as he biked the route. Lula Martin, David's mother said, "He's been looking forward to doing this for a long time so I'm very excited for him."
Mission 911 helps the local homeless community. When David heard they needed mattresses and money for dental care, he organized a bike ride in hopes that he could help; but this is where it gets interesting: he did the whole thing on his unicycle.
The trek inspired representatives from Mattress Firm to donate 15 mattresses to Mission 911 (that's one mattress per mile). David, who just picked up unicycling two years ago, said he couldn't be happier with the results.
"It just makes me happy that I get to do this for people," he said. "Because I've worked for people before like this but I've never raised money or anything for them."
His mother Lula said, "I think it's really exciting for them to a part of something bigger than themselves, you know? And have a chance to do something for somebody else."
David said he decided to do the route on one wheel because it's something unique. At the end of the race, Mattress Firm decided to increase their donation to 36 mattresses and pillows for Mission 911.
