K9 Unit Tracks Down Suspected Car Burglar

CORPUS CHRISTI - A suspected auto burglar accused of showing a gun to a witness took off running when police showed up Saturday afternoon.

According to police, 23-year-old Justin Gunnels was under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the area of Weber and Holly when they came by to check out a report of a man pulling on car door handles.

Officers had some trouble finding the man, so they called for a K9 unit to track him down.

A witness told police the suspect lifted up his shirt to display a pistol when confronted. Police say they didn't find a gun on Gunnels when he was arrested, but the K9 unit was able to locate pellet gun nearby.

Gunnels is charged with public intoxication, possession of marijuana, possession of dangerous drugs, and evading arrest.
