AUSTIN(AP) - Prosecutors are presenting a second day of testimony in the trial of a man accused of killing a Central Texas police officer in April 2012.
A manager of an Austin Walmart store testified that Brandon Daniel giggled and told him "I killed a cop" as Austin police Officer Jaime Padron bled to death on the floor.
Store retail manager Lincoln LeMere was among the witnesses called in the opening day of the 26-year-old former software engineer's capital murder trial. Prosecutors say they'll pursue the death penalty.
Officer Albert Arevalo testified that Daniel stared blankly and spoke in a slurred, lethargic tone. He said Daniel also told him, "I killed a cop."
Daniel's attorney says his client had taken the anti-anxiety drug Xanax earlier that night.
