Judge Warns of Jury Duty Scam

CORPUS CHRISTI - Nueces County District Judge Bobby Galvan is putting out a warning about a jury duty scam going around. Judge Galvan tells us a man says he was contacted by someone claiming to be calling from judge Ana Martinez's court.

The person said they were calling the man because he'd missed jury duty and was being fined $3,000. The victim told court administrators he went ahead and sent the money.

Here's the problem - there isn't a judge in the Nueces County courthouse named Ana Martinez.

"If in fact you are assessed a fine by a judge it will be done in the courthouse, in a court room by a judge. Do not pay any fine for missing jury duty over the phone through someone you do not know," warns Judge Galvan.

You can also call the courthouse to find out if you even had jury duty in the first place and just missed the date.
