AUSTIN - An Austin man is jailed on $100,000 bond after threatening to kill a judge.

Shawn Erik Haugen is held on a charge of retaliation. He was arrested at his home without incident.

Court documents reviewed by the Austin American-Statesman show the 26-year-old Haugen's ability to act on his own behalf in legal matters was removed by the judge, who reported Saturday to police he'd received a call from Haugen's public defender. The court affidavit says the lawyer warned Haugen had called her and mentioned the judge's name, address and home phone number and said he'd kill the judge.

The judge's wife was so afraid she took their family to a hotel and wouldn't disclose it to police over the telephone because she feared Haugen might be the caller.
