ROCKPORT -The video went viral in just a few hours: a sitting man in a darkened room, striking his daughter with a belt.
Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams didn't lose his bench in the aftermath of his actions with his estranged daughter.
Now he's got a Republican primary challenger in Richard Bianchi, who is promising he'll be a judge the people of Aransas County "can be proud of."
A county official said Adams and Bianchi have run clean campaigns. There's been no public mud-slinging.
But the fallout from Adams' actions remain fresh in voters minds.
Jackie Brannon said she's lived in Rockport for about 15 years. She said Adams' past was part of her thought process.
Q: "Did that weigh into your decision making process in this race?"
Brannon: "Yes ... of course it did...had to."
Brannon wouldn't say if she'd voted for Adams or Bianchi. She didn't want to make an enemy.
Meanwhile, KRIS-6 news checked in at both Adams' and Bianchi's offices at the Aransas County Courthouse, which are separated only by two doors and a hallway.
But both were nowhere to be found today.
And voters seemed scarce, too.
The local VFW is a popular polling location but only 60 voters had shown up by noon.
We checked back around 2 and they'd just nudged over 100.
The library was a little busier. They'd had 90 voters through lunchtime.
Precinct Chairman Malcolm Deickow said weather sapped interest early on...but was hopeful for a late run.
"There was a lot of interest," he said. "I'll be very disappointed if it doesn't but I know, weather is a deterrent."
