CORPUS CHRISTI -- Sometimes life can throw us a curve ball...and that's certainly what happened to Minister Mark Pugh.
A day before going to visit his daughter in New Jersey for Thanksgiving, his world stopped after a near-deadly bicycle accident.
But after weeks in the hospital he's feeling much better and Minister Pugh returned to his church to find more support than he could have ever imagined.
Minister Pugh greets the people of Kings Crossing Church of Christ by name.
He's been preaching there for more than ten years and knows everyone.
So no one gets by without a hug.
But the hugs aren't quite as tight today.
Minister Pugh went to the hospital after he crashed his bike on the way home from a community garden in November.
He said, "I went over the handlebars. I did a face plant. My oral surgeon said I broke every bone in my face. He had to do two actual surgeries to put my face back together and he said he never seen anyone with as much facial damage as I had from the accident."
He says his faith, family and friends kept him strong and after a month in the hospital, he's almost as good as new.
He said, "I still got a long way to go but everyday it's just a little better."
Little by little, Minister Pugh is making his way back to the pulpit.
Last Sunday, he went up in front of his church family for the first time since the accident.
He said, "They let me actually stand in the pulpit and do my standard greeting I like to do on Sunday mornings and I always start off with good morning church and the congregation responds to that."
One church member said, "He's been able to get up there and do that and it just makes us all really happy to see him do that."
Minister Pugh didn't get a breath in between hugs and kisses.
People even lined up to show their love and support.
He just ate it up and hopefully in a couple weeks he'll be back on the pulpit full-time.
