JIM WELLS CO. - Officials in Jim Wells County say they tried pulling over a four door Mazda Sedan around 3:30 p.m. today in Ben Bolt. A chase ensued north toward the city of Alice after the car refused to pull over. On a back road about eight miles outside Ben Bolt, officials say four men bailed out of the vehicle.
Inside the trunk of the Mazda, officials found between 150-300 pounds of marijuana packaged with straps like backpacks. Alice Police Department, Sheriff Deputies, Game Warden, and DPS searched for the suspects on foot and by helicopter. After four hours officials detained one of their suspects and called off search efforts for the remaining three. Officials believe that, because the pot was made to be carried like backpacks, the suspects are illegal immigrants.
