ALICE - A jailer with the Jim Wells County Sheriff's Office is now out of a job and being held in the facility for allegedly stealing $150 from an inmate booked into the jail on Tuesday.
Captain Brandon Torres with the Sheriff's Office says he was notified by a lieutenant about the complaint from an inmate who noticed he was missing some cash as he was released.
An officer with the Alice Police Department confirmed to Torres that the man brought to the jail did have $1,634 with him at the time of his arrest.
Captain Torres says during his interview of jailer Gerardo Contreras he received a confession that the missing $150 could be found in his car.
Contreras was fired on the spot and charged with misdemeanor theft Wednesday night. He's already out on bond.
