LAREDO, Texas -- The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team scored four runs in the top of the second and never looked back en route to a 6-3 win over Texas A&M International on Tuesday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
With the win, Kingsville moves to 23-10 on the season, while the Dustdevils drop to 21-13. The Javelinas return to Lone Star Conference play this weekend when they head to Lawton, Okla. for 4-game series. The first game is Friday at 3 p.m.
In the decisive second, Trent Wagner led off with a single and went to second as Matt Perez walked. Wagner scored on a single to right by James Black. David Massey followed with a single up the middle to drive in Perez for his first RBI as a member of the Javelinas. Massey crossed the plate on a single by Julian Duran.
The Hoggies added single runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Massey singled to start the sixth, and, after advancing to third on a single by Dustin Aguilar, raced home on a single by Ben Villafuerte. In the seventh, Taylor Taska led off with a double and scored as Black picked up his second RBI of the night with a single.
With the run support, Javelina starter Cody Williams was stellar in moving to 2-3 on the season. He allowed just one run on a home run by Matt Garcia in the bottom of the fourth. Williams permitted three hits and two walks. Four Javelina relievers followed as Miles Holcomb and Tres Tyler each threw an inning of scoreless relief. Ryan Benitez allowed a run on hit in the eighth, while Jeremy Flores was tagged with an unearned run in the ninth.
Donald Fennell took the loss as he allowed four runs on five hits in two innings of work evening his record at 1-1. He was followed by six relievers.
Four players had two hits apiece for Kingsville which had 11 as a team. Villafuerte, Taska, Black and Massey each had a pair of hits for the Javelinas. Jeff Anderson had two hits to lead International.
