KINGSVILLE, Texas - Texas A&M-Kingsville announced its 2014 Javelina football schedule on Tuesday.
The 11-game schedule will feature five home games, a contest with Texas A&M-Commerce at the fourth Lone Star Conference Football Festival, and two games in the first Lone Star Conference Playoffs the final two weeks of the regular season.
The season will begin with home games against a pair of first-time Javelina opponents. The Javelinas will open the season on Sept. 6 versus Humboldt State (0-11) at 7 p.m. on Hall of Fame Weekend with Colorado Mesa visiting Javelina Stadium for week two on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. The Mavericks (5-6) will be in town for IBC Bank Hispanic Heritage Weekend.
On Sept. 20 at 10 a.m., the Javelinas will make their fourth visit to AT&T Stadium in Arlington for the Lone Star Conference Football Festival. Kingsville will face long-time rival A&M-Commerce in the first game of the Festival in a battle for the Chenault Cup.
Kingsville plays its first true road game to end September with a trip to Abilene to visit McMurry (3-8) for a 6 p.m. meeting on Sept. 27.
The Hoggies will play four games in the month of October with two at home and two on the road.
The month begins with games against LSC co-champions Eastern New Mexico and Tarleton State. The Greyhounds (7-3, 5-1) come to town on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. as Kingsville celebrates Family Fiesta Weekend sponsored by Pueblo Tires and Service. On Oct. 11, the Javelinas make the trek to Stephenville to face the Texans (7-3, 5-1). The game time has not been announced.
The Hoggies return to Javelina Stadium Oct. 18 to host Angelo State (5-6, 2-4) for the annual Kleberg Bank Homecoming Game. Kingsville returns to the road the following week when it travels to West Texas A&M to face the Buffaloes (11-3, 4-2) at 6 p.m. WT represented the LSC in the 2013 NCAA Playoffs advancing to the quarterfinals.
Kingsville closes out the regular season on Nov. 1 at home against Midwestern State (7-3, 3-3) at 7 p.m. The contest will be the Javelinas annual City of Kingsville Community Appreciation Night.
The following two weeks will feature the inaugural Lone Star Conference Playoffs.
The eight conference teams will be divided into two, 4-team brackets with the top four teams squaring off for a chance at the LSC title. The opening week of the playoffs on Nov. 8 will pit No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3 at the home site of the top-seeded team in each bracket. The winners will meet the following week on Nov. 15 for the LSC title, while the losers will also meet. The bottom bracket will see No. 5 vs. No. 8 and No. 6 vs. No. 7 with the higher seed hosting. Like the upper bracket, the two winners will meet the following week as will the losers.
