Javelina Women Lead Wire-To-Wire To Snap Losing Streak

LAWTON, Okla. - The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team had nine player's score and Sheana Jones matched her career-high with 13 points snapping the team's 13-game losing streak with a 53-42 win over Cameron.

The Javelinas move to 4-14 with win and are 2-10 in the Lone Star Conference. It was the team's first win since Nov. 28 when they defeated the same Aggies 61-55 at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. Cameron is now 4-14 with a 3-9 LSC mark.

The Javelinas scored the game's first five points and never looked back. A steal and bucket by Jones extended the Kingsville lead to 11-3 seven minutes into the game.

The Aggies pulled to within two, 11-9, with a 6-0 run with 9:52 remaining.

The Hoggies built their lead back to eight on 3-point basket by Madara Gulbe and a jumper by Brittany Selby. They took a 23-18 lead into the locker room.

Cameron thrice pulled to within a basket in the first 9-1/2 minutes of the second half the last on a 3-point play by Ali Brown.

Michelle Wagner and her teammates responded with a 10-2 run to lead 42-32 with 7:35 left. Wagner's three ended the run.

The visitors pulled no closer than five the remainder of the game.

Aside from Jones' 13 points, Wagner added a career-high eight as the Javelina bench outscored its counterparts 23-7. Ashley Benavides pulled down a team-best eight rebounds and Kingsville had a season-low 10 turnovers in the win.

Brown led the Aggies with 17 points, while Lacy Reinke led all players with 13 rebounds.

The Javelinas return to action Saturday when they visit Midwestern State.
