KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team suffered its 11th consecutive loss to LSC rival Abilene Christian, 76-61, Saturday afternoon.
Kingsville falls to 3-12 overall, 1-8 in Lone Star Conference play while Abilene Christian improves to 7-2 in the LSC and 12-3 overall.
After Abilene Christian took a huge lead in the first half, Kingsville slowly inched its way closer, lowering the deficit. The Javelinas started to gain momentum with a Sheana Jones layup at the 8:27 mark, 33-22. From there, they went on a 12-0 run for five minutes coming within one, 33-32.
Breanna Gonzalez hit a three-pointer to take the lead for the first time in the game. The Javelinas held onto the lead through the end of the half, 40-37.
During the second half, the Wildcats regained the momentum and ran off with the lead through the end of the game.
Sheana Jones led the Javelinas with 13 points and seven rebounds. Rita Banazczak followed with 10 points. Nine out of the 12 Javelinas to enter the game scored.
Four Wildcats came out with double figures. Renata Marquez led with 23 points followed by Savannah Smith with 13, Kelsey Smith with 12 and Sadie Dickinson 11.
The Javelinas will be back on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court Wednesday night as they take on Incarnate Word at 6 p.m.
