KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team closed out its Javelina Classic with a pair of wins on Sunday. The Javelinas won the opener in extra innings against St. Edward's 3-2 before ending the tournament with an 11-3 win in five innings over Texas A&M International.
The Javelinas are now 4-5 on the season heading into a mid-week game at A&M International on Tuesday.

Kingsville claimed the win in its first game on Sunday opener with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Adela Gomez started the inning at second for the Javelinas as part of tiebreaker rules. She scored with one away on a double by Corina Noel.

Denise Arnold earned the win 2-1/3 innings of scoreless relief to even her record at 1-1 on the year.

The Javelinas wasted little time taking a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in their half of the first. Rose Stubbs led off with an infield hit. Stubbs raced around to score on a double by Adela Gomez. After Lex Cordova singled, Corina Noel singled to drive in Gomez for the second run.

The Hilltoppers cut the lead in half with a single run in the top of the fourth and tied the game at two in the fifth with an unearned run.

The game remained tied until the Javelinas crossed the plate in the bottom of eighth for the win.

In the second game, Kingsville pounded out 11 runs on 12 hits in five innings. The Javelinas crossed the plate in four of five innings in the run-rule win. After a run in the first, they added two in the third and five in the fourth for an 8-0 lead.

The Dustdevils put three runs on the board in the top of the fifth only to be answered by the Javelinas with three in the bottom of the inning. The final two runs were driven in by Cordova with a double, who finished with a season-high five RBI.

Arnold earned her second win of the day against TAMIU. The Javelina pitcher scattered six hits and fanned three.

Stubbs led the Hoggies with three hits and scored three runs along with Kodie Garner. Noel was 2-of-3 with three runs batted in, while Gomez drove in a pair.
