KINGSVILLE, Texas - Texas A&M-Kingsville junior guard Rashad Basey was named the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week in men's basketball on Monday after averaging 24 points a game in the Javelinas' wins over Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M.
In the win over Eastern last Thursday afternoon, Basey scored a career-high 30 points versus the Greyhounds in the Javelinas' 82-64 victory. Basey finished 13-of-21 from the floor with a pair of three-point baskets. He added three assists, two rebounds, a block and a steal. The 30-point outburst was the most by a Kingsville player since Ashton Brown had back-to-back games with 32 points last November against St. Mary's and St. Edward's.
In Saturday's overtime win versus West Texas, Basey had 18 points to go with game-highs in assists with five and steals with three. He was 6-of-10 from the floor and 1-of-1 from behind the arc. Basey was 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. The junior had two key assists late in OT feeding Jamahl Brown on a lay in to tie the game at 61 before finding Dytrel Bracey on the left wing for the game-winning three with less than five seconds to go.
The Javelinas take their three-game winning streak on the road to Angelo State on Wednesday before hosting Abilene Christian on Saturday at 3 p.m.
