KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's track team has been ranked fifth in the preseason USTFCCCA Top 25 poll released this week. The Javelinas, who finished eighth nationally at the indoor championship, are the top ranked team from the Lone Star Conference.
The Javelinas finished with 132.65 according to the scoring for the poll based on the team's potential points. Automatic qualifiers Jeron Robinson in the high jump and Jordan Yamoah in the pole vault are credited with 20-plus points, while C.J. Griggs has been credited with over potential 30-points combined in the long jump and triple jump.
Abilene Christian is rated tenth in the top 25 and is the only other LSC team in the top 25.
In other news, Robinson was named the LSC Men's Field Athlete of the Week following his performance at the LSU Tigers Relays. He won the high jump with a mark of 7'2-1/4" (2.19m) over a field primarily of Division I athletes. He is the lone Division II athlete to clear seven feet this season.
Select members of the Javelina track teams will be competing at the Texas Relays Thursday thru Saturday. The remainder of the men's and women's teams will compete at the Trinity Tiger Relays on Friday.
