KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's track team jumped 12 spots from No. 24 to No. 12 in this USTFCCCA NCAA Division II National Champions Rankings in the first regular season poll.
Led by Jordan Yamoah, who won the pole vault with the best mark (5.25m) in Division II this season, the Javelina men gained 37.55 points from the preseason rankings. Only Grand Valley State and the Academy of Art in this week's top 25 climbed more points. GVSU climbed 11 spots from No. 16 to fifth, while the Academy of Art moved into the Top 25 at No. 22 after being ranked 56th in the opening poll.
Abilene Christian is the only other LSC ranked in the men's poll.
Aside from Yamoah, who is an automatic qualifier for the indoor national championship, three other Javelinas recorded provisional qualifying marks. C.J. Griggs has the second-best mark in DII in the triple jump (15.28m), while Jeron Robinson has the fourth-best clearance in the high jump (2.14m) achieved the provisional status in field events. In running events, Sergio Rios in the 60-meter hurdles (8.17) has the 16th-best mark in the event this year to qualify provisionally.
The Javelinas next run Feb. 2 at the Red Raider Open in Lubbock.
