KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team has been selected to finish fifth in the Lone Star Conference in a poll completed by the conference coaches, sports information directors and one media representative.
The Javelinas are coming off a 13-13 season in which they were 7-7 on the year. They finished in the preseason poll with 82 points. Tarleton State edged Midwestern State for the top spot. The Texans had 166 points and finished with nine first-place votes, while the Mustangs had 163 points and 12 first-place votes. Cameron was selected to finish third with 124 points and had two votes for the top spot followed by West Texas A&M with 118 points.
The three teams selected to finish below the Javelinas were Eastern New Mexico (63), Angelo State (59), and Texas A&M-Commerce (53).
The Javelinas are led by Rashad Basey, who is the fifth-leading scorer returning in the conference. He averaged 14.2 points a game and 3.5 assists. Other returnees for Kingsville include Adonis Bailey, who joined the team nine games into the season, and Dwight Taylor. Bailey was third on the team with 8.5 points, while Taylor built a reputation as one of the top defenders in the LSC. Eight newcomers join Kingsville which has six total returnees.

The Javelinas travel to Edinburg this weekend to face UTPA in an exhibition game at 7p.m. They open the regular season on Nov. 12 in San Antonio against St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m.
